From my experience up to the present moment, I can say that counteroffers in IT are a rather successful practice for the employer. In most cases, the employee is convinced to stay after presented with a counteroffer, because it comes as a remedy for all his work related issues.
A job counteroffer talk is not only about the salary, but it also touches other important aspects, such as the employee’s job dissatisfactions, the reasons why they want to quit or the other offer they have received.
Considering the great implications and the effects that this practice has on the parties involved, I believe that it’s important to look at this phenomena from multiple angles. For an IT company, whose employee is on the brink of leaving, a counteroffer is a very frequently used tool to address the issue.
