About the role
Partenerul nostru is looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to build and maintain backend applications and microservices, contributing to architecture decisions and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Design scalable solutions: develop and maintain Java-based backend applications and microservices with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Deliver high-quality code: implement Spring Boot applications following best practices in clean code, testing and performance optimisation.
- Support modern deployment practices: work closely with DevOps to containerise and deploy applications and integrate CI/CD pipelines.
- Leverage event-driven architecture: use events to build robust, asynchronous systems that support scalability and decoupled services.
- Optimise data interactions: design and maintain efficient relational database integrations that ensure data integrity and system responsiveness.
- Contribute to strong engineering standards: engage in architectural discussions, perform code reviews and promote best practices.
- Leverage AI code companions: use intelligent development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality standards.
- Mentor and grow the team: provide guidance to junior developers and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend software development using Java 8 or above.
- Full stack development experience, with proficiency across backend and frontend technologies (Angular or React).
- Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and the Spring framework ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing RESTful microservices.
- Proficiency in writing optimised SQL queries and working with databases.
- Working knowledge of Apache Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
- Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, message-driven systems and distributed systems.
- Good understanding of Docker, orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
- Experience with Git, agile development practices and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure).
- Hands-on experience with AI code companions such as GitHub Copilot or JetBrains AI Assistant, and responsible use of AI tools more broadly.
- Strong English communication skills. German language skills are a plus.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with performance tuning and monitoring of Java applications.
- Knowledge of security best practices in backend development.
