Back End Software Engineer

Senior level • Full-time • Remote in Romania

Job Summary

Our partner's company is a startup, headquartered in London (UK), backed by Tier 1 VCs. They're developing the first quant-analyst for startups in collaboration with top academic institutions like University College London (UCL) and the University of Oxford.

Powered by groundbreaking ML-algorithms that predict the future success of startups (from idea to Series B), our software platform enables Venture Capitalists to make better investment decisions.

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to help build our internal suite of products and services, help us make informed decisions about technology and methodologies, and take an active part in growing our team in the future.

Your Role

You will grow a critical part of their technology strategy and take technical ownership in a cross-functional team. You will work on a wide range of technical challenges, using a variety of client, server, cloud and database tools.

As Senior Software Developer you will be comfortable collaborating on technical concepts with the ability to deliver them yourself, while also helping others to solve technical challenges. You will work closely with the CTO and other senior stakeholders to deliver the future roadmap whilst adding your own input to the team's technical direction and taking responsibility for engineering decisions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Hands-on development, working with Engineering team members to ensure quality and reliability of the platform;
  • Build and maintain performant back end services and databases;
  • Collaborate with Product team members to define, scope and plan future requirements;
  • Identify emerging issues and non-functional requirements, working with other team members to plan and implement solutions.

We have a modern stack with a focus on developer experience and shipping quality software.You will help inform our future technology choices. Our current stack includes:

  • Node.js, Typescript, GraphQL, React, Next.js, chakra-ui.
  • Docker, PostgreSQL, Terraform, AWS, Kubernetes, Gitlab

  • 5+ years software engineering experience developing backend REST API or Graphql services using JavaScript, Typescript and Node.js;
  • Experience managing deployments and continuous integration pipelines;
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries;
  • Competent understanding of git or equivalent source control;
  • You can work with a high degree of autonomy: you know how to manage your time effectively.

Team, Culture, Flexibility

The Engineering team is small but growing. We operate loosely under a Scrumban methodology, with an emphasis on short feedback cycles and continuous integration and deployment. We don't believe DevOps is anyone's job title - instead we help each team member to be responsible for the full lifecycle of their software.We are committed to building a remote-first engineering team. This role can be based in our central London office, or fully remote - but we get together at least 4 times a year.

  • Competitive salary + share options
  • 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Fridays we work half days but get paid for a full day
  • Choose the location where you want to work
  • Training budget
